TWO FORMATS FOR GUEST POSTS:
Unless I have asked you about one in particular, you can choose whichever post format works best with your content.
1) ASK THE EXPERTS
Please answer these six questions:
What are the latest trends in your industry, or about your topic?
What is the biggest mistake you see people making in regards to what you do?
What is your best piece of advice?
What is one thing readers can do this week to improve?
Anything else we should keep in mind?
If you haven't already included it in the information above, do you have any resources that would be helpful so people can learn more? (books, podcasts, websites, etc.)
Notes:
Keep the audience in mind: nonprofit and for-profits with a social mission, typically at a small organization where people wear multiple hats. They are mostly focused on their cause, and therefore, may be new or have limited understanding of your niche.
Tone: My aim is to make marketing and communications more accessible and easier to understand, so please refrain from using any jargon. I also like a friendly tone, and using humor and stories is always encouraged!
Please link to other posts on my site or outside sites, etc, when applicable.
Aim for the blog post to be between 600-1,500 words. I'm not set on a word count, but I am interested in providing value to the readers and covering the topic thoroughly.
If you need to reword the questions a bit, that’s fine, since these are written quite generally here. I want to make sure people learn something new when reading these posts, so I’m just trying to glean 1) trends, 2) mistakes, 3) advice, 4) immediate action, 5) anything else you think is important, and 6) additional resources.
I also need:
A headshot
A bio of 50-ish words
A link to your site
Your social media handles
You're welcome to suggest a header image. Otherwise, I'll choose.
Examples
Here are previous examples for you to look over:
Ask the Experts series
Please be sure to read through a few blog posts to get a feel for the regular content before writing your piece.
**And hopefully it goes without saying, but it would be very much appreciated if you'd promote your post to your social networks and email list once it's live.**
2) REGULAR GUEST POST
If you don't feel the first format works for your topic, or if you've been asked to write a more typical guest post, please keep these things in mind:
Include sub-heads
Include additional resources, where appropriate
Keep the paragraphs short, as that is current trend.
Depending on your topic, please include actionable advice and practical steps to help people learn more or make improvements.
You are welcome to weave in your own products/services where it fits naturally, but please do not come across as overly promotional. You will have a bio and link to showcase as well.
